Working with Girls....Restoring my Dreams

Thursday, April 28, 2011 0

In additon to my previous post, I wanted to remind everyone that there truly is not time to quit. I was a track coach because fitness is very important, especially for girls. It is not just the fitness it about building self esteem. I reminded them after each practice to remeber to not quit because all thing were possible. I also reminded them to uplift anyone who needs help. I was fortunate to have great team helping me. I could not have done it without them.

This entry is not only to remember tthat I not taught the girls here but to remind everyone there is no time quitting, but it is selfish of me as well! I truly was going to let Glitzy Style go and start of fresh. This was a baby that I could not even come up with a name on my own, but friends helped me. I was so proud that I could not wait to secure the name, get a business license, get my LLC! I did them all the next day.

I must say I had many naysayers and I listened to them, sadly. I had allowed people to led me to doubt myself versus following God's lead.

So, girls if you see this know that we all have stumbling blocks but with God's love we can do anything. I almost quit which is so much what I did not teach you. So, in honor of you, I will not quit I will do all that I can. Remember in life, sometimes when things don't work out, it means God has something better for you. In my situation he has restored my dream and allowed to show me a new vision. I also am not giving up you because in fall I will be ready with a new fitness/mentoring program and we have to run one more 5k for old time sake's and we will move on from there.

Glitzy Style is changing its concepts! There are exciting things coming and I cannot wait to share two of the projects I am working on! An announcement will be made in the next few weeks. I cannot wait so please follow so you do not miss the announcement!

Glitzy Style is going to do philanthropic work. This is the beginning of one of my life's dreams. Beginning today, I will work with anyone who has a fundraising project or event for a nonprofit agency. There is a possibility that I would work with a for profit company, this would have to be discussed as it will be considered on a case by case situation. Items will made at cost plus up to 10% depending on the complexity of the project. So please think of your churches and other charitable organizations and contact me whenever there is a need. Many of my friends host events in there homes for a cause, so if you or someone else you know are hosting such an event, let's talk about what we can work out. Please share the word as I look forward to all the possibilities to come! I am also willing to lend some of my planning tips if you need them.

Projects will also be made for small groups who are looking for something beautiful to show their cohesiveness. The project margin will be at normal rates but worth the project you have in mind.

If anything I mentioned is appealing or of interest to you, please let me know!

Glitzy Style and Preppy Princess stores will have listings soon. I will be sure to let you know!

Please share your comments and ideas I would love hearing them!

Calling all Ladies

Wednesday, March 2, 2011 0

I have always been a girly girl despite playing sports in Middle School and then I thought that I would not be girly enough if I played ball. My thought process was flawed. I think we really need to teach our young ladies that they can still be active and be a lady.

Earlier this year I joined a movement called Pretty Girls Rock Dresses and it's launch was yesterday. I have witnessed many beautiful women reaffirm what it meant to be a lady by wearing dresses and just plain old feeling feminine. Today, I thought twice about how I was going to dress to go to the gym. I am so accustomed to going out in baggy sweats and a huge t-shirt that I realized there was no reason to look drab and not feel like a lady because I am going to the gym. So I wore a cute gym capri along with a fitted t-shirt and diamond studs.

So, today, as I did run some errands I felt so in touch with who I am. I had forgotten how good it felt to consciously set out to feel like the lady that I am in all situations.

Accessories always make the outfit so remember to find the proper accessories to tie your look together. Often times we miss this step when pulling our outfits together. Be careful to wear the correct accessories with the proper outfit. We will explore that next time.

Please check out Pretty Girls Rock Dresses and Pretty Girls Rock Dresess, LLC on Facebook and don't for get checkout the website:
http://www.prettygirlsrockdres.wordpress.com/ .

Come back to check out my latest creations and ideas. Please do not forget to like Glitzy Style and Glitzy Style LLC on Facebook. I look forward to seeing you there.

The picture posted is my official day of the challenge, a nice day in the park with a dangling earring along with a simple watch instead of a bracelet along with a headband to match the outfit. It was very simple yet very lady like.

Friendship braclet

Friendships

Friendships play such an integral part in our lives. We sometimes must evaluate them as time goes, but what do we do to cultivate those relationships. I always wonder how many people who are in our "little" circle of friends are truly our friends. I think this is something we should all ponder.

I am still on the kick of something that girlfriends can share that is other than the "friendship" bracelet. So, I have come up with something very simple that friends can share. Perhaps, it could be a multicolored bracelet to something to represent how you feel about either your friend or cirlce of friends. I have never done this for myself, but I will definitely will be sharing this for my friends and share with you the results of what I decide with. I have something simple that I have made just because, but I think it is simply fun. It may be a good idea and something quirky for adults. What do you think? Do you think I am on track? I may be totally off the mar, so please help me decide I am on the right track.

Inspiration

Thursday, February 10, 2011 2

Since I have been under the weather, I figured I would just take time to look at clothing websites and magazines to observe the the trends so I can make your special piece in a less expensive version. I was looking at Beyonce's mother's line, Miss Tina, and none of the outfits which will be sold at Walmart cost over $20 yet, the accessories styled with it cost extraordinary amounts of money, I mean literally, accessories some outfits ended up around $1000. It makes absolutely no sense for someone design a line that should be accessible to everyone should be accessorized so expensively. I do believe that accessories may end up costing more than the outfit, if you want the accessories to last and be able to combine with other things, however, definitely not to the tune $1000 and up. So you can depend on Glitzy Style to be budget conscious.

Statement Pieces

Wednesday, February 9, 2011 2
As I laid on my testing table for 90 mintues today, I realized that I truly should be making statement jewelry. I have two digestive illnesses and I go through so much because of them. I was thinking how fitting would it be for me to wear a statement piece so when people admire them, I could give them more information about the illnesses and what they could do to help. I want to find ways to provide awareness in the community. I actually have all of the components to make my friend a bracelet for autism that I need to work on. I moved recently so I am not as organized as I should be. Life is has strange ways of making things brighter for us. My having an awful test, made me realize there was another need/desire to share our experiences. What are some of the awareness pieces would you like to see? I hope you chime in because I really would like to know what your interests . Calling all suggestions.....

2011 fashions are returning to the 70's. There so many things to consider when considering the trends. First of all, you have to remember that you must accessorize your wardrobe to complete your look. Today, I thought I would share hair accessory trends. This year trends are bolder and I just love it!

Look for floral pins, headbands and the like. Feather fascinators are a huge rage this year. You could wear them on headbands, clips, feather fascinators, come in many different styles I am sure there is one that will tickle your fancy. So, tell me what are you willing to try?

Friendship

How do you define friendship? Do you categorize your friends? As women, we learn that we have certain friends that we can count on different things for and then there are our ride or die girls! Do you remember when we kids and we made the little friendship bracelets with our friends? My daughter and her friends make them and the are not supposed to take them off until they fall off. It is supposed to signify they will be friends forever, AKA, BFF's.

I thought about it a lot around Christmas time what would be the best thing I could do for my girls. Of course I was unable to work for months at that that time but I thought wouldn't starting a Pandora bracelets and use them to represent myself and some to represent my girls too. I thought that would be entirely too expensive to do for all of my girls. I can get genuine Pandora supplies yet they were still would be very costly. So, I knew I had to come up with something beautiful. I am actually stuck!!!! I am hoping I get some inspiration from the bead show.

I have recently joined a "Sister Circle" so I really have to come up with some idea, just because we are adults why can't we have something that makes us smile when we think of our girls. I am a member of Zeta Phi Beta, Inc and nothing makes me prouder than to wear my official Zeta Pin. I cherish it so much because it represents something I truly love. So, I know I have to come up with something for us to celebrate our friendships in our lives in an adult manner.

Truth of the matter is without my girlfriends I would be lost, would you? We may or may not have a significant other but sometimes we just have to have a girls. I have a husband but we communicate differently and that is okay because you are in love with one another, but you still need your girls. So, I will continue to ponder on this idea and I cannot wait until I come up with an idea to celebrate friendships! If you have any suggestions please chime in, I would love to hear your thoughts.

My goal is to come up with something "generic" so to speak when someone is looking for something for their friends, but I would also love to be able to design things that YOU think would represent you and your girls best.

Philanthropy Counts

Thursday, February 3, 2011 0

Webster's dictionary defines philanthropy as altruistic care for human beings welfare and advancement, usually manifested by donations of money, property or work to need persons, by endowment of institutions of learning and hospitals and generosity to other socially useful persons. I feel like when in the business community, one must ALWAYS give back. I am all about holding up to my responsibility by making my mark in this world. I believe I would be socially irresponsible if we do not give back to our community. I find to many people throw their hats in the business arena and think only of themselves. Simply because we are capable to provide services and use our talents for others we should use them to be socially responsible. I am a firm believer that just because I have an idea that could in general be of the betterment of the community, I would be irresponsible to profit from something that would be beneficail for all. I am supposed to be but slowed down working on a project with Senator Hank Johnson which can only be philanthropic. I will be in the Senator's office as soon as I am able to resolve some issues that must be taken care of first. I would never feel right about profiting for the cause.

I have started out with my spiritual offering 10% of all profits from sales of religious designs created will go towards Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church's Building fund. I feel like there are several ways for me to share my talents to give back and still earn profits. I will be sharing about two new projects I will be working on soon. One will be completely philanthropic and the other is a new business venture. The business venture is moving slower than I would like but a foundation must be built soundly.

I would like to share some information about a philanthropic business of an associate of mine. She and a friend started an organization to support women. It is called IAAVS, I AM A VISUAL STATEMENT. Please check them out at http://www.iavvs.com/ to learn more about how you can help their endeavors. I know I will be becoming more active in their endeavors, so please join me, you won't regret it.

Bead Shopping

As I mentioned previously, I will be going a bead show and buying merchandise wholesale. I will be be bombarded by tons of beautiful beads and components to design all kinds of beautiful things. What type pieces of jewelry are you interested in wearing? Your providing me an idea will help me with shopping. I get lost in the sea of beads and I am ready to purchase EVERYTHING. This time around I will have my daughter tow to help me slow down. I will spend the next couple of days deciding on projects I want to work on and make a list for supplies. I hope you share with me what you are interested in seeing. I really want to look at some vintage looks because I am really loving the idea of bring the vintage vibe back. Pretty Girls Rock are going to be rocking vintage and being part of that movement I have to represent and my accessories have to be impeccable as I encourage all ladies. to do.

Pearls, Pearls, Pearls

Tuesday, February 1, 2011 0

Do you love pearls? I absolutely adore them and believe that they are a must have for every lady. Does every important lady, young or old have pearls in their jewelry collections in your life? I use freshwater pearls versus cultured pearls to cut costs and make them more attainable for everyone is able to own them. I can get them in many colors, however, colored pearls are more expensive, yet still affordable. I also can also get different shapes. It depends on the shape you desire that really make a difference in cost, but it is still probably less expensive than you would think. I can also get pearls with names and dates on them. You may want to have a mother's bracelet designed with children's names and dates of birth. You can have pearls designed in casual designs and as well as more formal designs. Remember all of the June babies, as pearls are their birthstone. Do not forget the little ones, start them early. I started my daughter early with earrings and bracelets. She respects fine jewelry. Though she did not wear my designs early on, she does now.
If you are in a sorority you can have your sorority tag attached to your clasp. You could even mix the colors. AKA's you should buy your sorors a strand with an ivy leaf attached to the clasp. Zeta's you can use five larger pearls to represent the five pearls and design it anyway you would like. Deltas, Sigma Gamma Rho we can work out something to implement your colors in a design as well. Remember, I love your ideas and implementing them into to the design.
Please make sure you consider buying pearls as they should be a staple in your wardrobe.
